It's been a while, quite a while - I apologise. But hopefully this blog about wonderful spring colours will make up for it.
This time of year nature is trying hard to bid farewell to winter and welcome spring with open arms. I've been out and about and enjoying the more clement weather with my two dogs as best I can - in the countryside and on the beach. I hope you will indulge with me my love of colour and of course my love of nature in this blog. No crafting this time just pure nature spring colour!
Let's start with the most obvious of colours at this time of year - yellow. What does it bring to mind?
Daffodils - with their goldeness bursting through the weak morning sunshine. Daffodils popped in to a vase at home brings welcome colours into the home but seeing them outside is heart warming.
Nothing beats a lovely drive or walk through the British countryside at this time of year when there are daffodils and primroses in abundance on the banks of the roads. As the banks draw up you can see so many beautiful little yellow primroses growing naturally in amongst all the grass and hedgerow. Seeing them all clumped together is a true sign that nature is telling us that Spring is here.
Does the gorgeous colour of pink come to mind in spring? There is of course spring blossom. This is in abundance at the moment. Often pink blossom is next to some delightful white blossom. Both attract birds which like to sing that spring is coming!
Pink is a colour that isn't used too much in painting - which is a shame. It is in full flow in Summer but if you look carefully you can find it in Spring as well. Think about tulips - they are one of the most popular cut flowers - but seeing them growing naturally is satisfying. They come in many shades and colours. Ranging from deep maroon through to light rose, with each colour having it's own meaning. Pink apparently means happiness. Lovely. Have you noticed that many pink colours are named after flowers? For example - rose, lavender pink and fuchsia. How inspirational.
The inspiration for this pink watercolour painting shown actually comes from some vintage material I found. The pattern on it had beautiful bright flower heads on with a slightly lighter blue than I've painted. I adapted the painting as I wanted the main flower to be more bright and take centre stage.
Clear blue skies are a very welcome sight in Spring and when they come along they are more than welcome. Recently I went to Hastings Country Park to have an afternoon walk in the countryside and I was not disappointed. The bright blue seemed to burst through the sky. The sea is often described as crystal blue but when I looked at this sky the words appear to suit this better.
Early ranunculus bring a riot of colour to the flower bed or kitchen table. Their incredible colours appear so pure and innocent. Layers of delicate petals make up these joyful flowers. They really are very inspirational and make me want to pick up my paint palette to capture their brightness. Nature truly is amazing that it can produce such vivid colours.
Well that was colourful injection of inspiration and hope you enjoyed it.
More springtime loveliness next time.
Vicky :-)
Spring is natures' way of saying let's party.
